Songkran Celebration Starting Early In Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH: The Songkran (Khmer New Year) party starts early this year at a special event held at Moradok Techo National Stadium. It will be held over 5 days from 6th to 10th April 2022, from 8 am to 11 pm.

This event is to welcome the New Year diety, Princess Keriney Devi.

This Songkran is the year of the Tiger.

This event is to promote culture and national traditions, local products, and sports participation, and attract the public to visit the Moradok Techo National Stadium, an international stadium that will host the SEA Games 2023.

During the event, there will be concerts featuring many famous singers starring G-Devith, Miss Ret Suzana, Miss Rabee, Mr Nico, Mr Aam Vanny, Miss Sovathdy, Therika, Mr Meas Monireach, Mr Sao Udom and many others, a singing contest, a beauty pageant, a traditional fashion show representing the 12 deities of the Khmer New Year, traditional Khmer dances, popular social Khmer dances, Khmer folk games, and an EDM concert with spectacular fireworks.

There will be the first Cambodian Tik Tok Award, followed by a Tik Tok Party, and Tik Tok Charity for Cambodia, which will bring together famous Tik Tok stars from the Kingdom of Cambodia to compete for the Tik Tok Award, to help raise money for Kantha Bopha children’s hospital.

There will be lots of local and general products, education, culture, finance, real estate, automotive and sports exhibitions with over 400 booths.

During the event, there will be lots of prizes, to be won including:

-A Honda Scooby 2022 motorcycle

-3 iPhones 13 Pro Max phones

-3 Oppos phones 2022

- Bicycles

And many more prizes.

This event has been authorized and supported by Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Information, Phnom Penh Capital Hall, Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia Association, Cambodian Women, Cambodian Writers Association and much other public and private institutions.

With the full cooperation from the relevant authorities and the management of the Moradok Techo Stadium, the organizing committee of this event has assigned more than 200 people to follow procedures to ensure the safety, hygiene, security and success of the event.

In addition to first aid kits and standby ambulances, to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the organizing committee has installed four heat scanners at the entrance, requiring all participants to wear masks and alcohol bottles in all booths and locations.

This event expects more than 20,000 people during the event, coming from all over Cambodia.
